MAI CHAU MOTORBIKING IN 2 DAYS
Mai Chau Motorbiking Introduction
This Mai Chau Motorbiking short ride was designed for people who work in Hanoi. At weekends, they want to escape the city for fresh air. In addition, this trip suits travellers who don’t have many days riding in Vietnam. Just in two days you will ride snake ways, stay with local Thai people, try their delicious food, join their music Xoe dance and much more. Below is the long ride that we designed for intermediate and experienced riders. However, if you feel you want less riding hours we will find some short-cuts and back roads for you. This is also a good tour if you want to have a taste of Vietnam on small motorbikes. In case you have one more day, we could take you to further explore the surrounding areas of Mai Chau or Pu Luong Reserve. That will be a 3 days trip.
Mai Chau Motorbiking Route
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau. ~200 km, ~6 h.
Leave Hanoi from the West end of the city, just one straight road and three traffic lights. This is much better than riding through the city centre with about forty traffic lights to Highway 6. This road takes us to Son Tay along the Red River. Then turn left at Trung Ha bridge and ride on the new road all the way to Hoa Binh.
Once out of the Red River Delta, which brims with traditional farming activity, we pass through limestone monoliths and into foothills populated by Muong people. We head straight at the main range before breaching a high and beautiful forested pass, which descends into the hidden valley of Mai Chau where we spend the night with friends in a traditional Thai stilt house in Poom Coong village.
The valley of Mai Chau lies between two rivers; the Da River and the Ma River that makes it very fertile and rich in varied landscapes, medium mountains, forest, lake, rivers, and infinitude of small footpaths and offer many possibilities of a trek. In the valley of Mai Chau and its surroundings, you meet different ethnic people such as Muong, white Thai, H’Mong (live in the hill slopes), and Dao at the markets or in their villages during trekking, boating or while riding.
Day 2: Mai Chau – Hanoi. ~200 km, ~6 h. End of Mai Chau Motorbiking.
In the morning, visit around Mai Chau then ride back to Hanoi on karst road. We will find a different road back to Hanoi wherever possible. Arrive in Hanoi before 5pm to avoid the heavy traffic during rush hours.
