The Touring Destinations page provides useful information to help you plan your Vietnam motorcycle adventure from Hanoi. All of our motorbike tours can be customized before and during the trip, allowing us to adapt the itinerary to your interests, riding experience, and available time.

Our routing is not always fixed. We consider actual road conditions, weather, local conditions, and the riding ability of the group when deciding which roads to take. This flexibility allows us to make the most of each journey while keeping the ride enjoyable for everyone. Everybody is welcome, from beginners to experienced motorcyclists, and we can discuss the most suitable route for your group.

The first five destinations below are the most typical motorcycle routes we recommend in Northern Vietnam. By combining and connecting these different loops, we can create many different Vietnam motorbike tour itineraries, from short weekend adventures to extended multi-day journeys.

Ha Giang Scenic Country And Northeast Vietnam

Ha Giang and Northeast Vietnam are probably the most spectacular area for motorcycle riding in Northern Vietnam. It is also the most popular motorbike tour we offer. The region combines dramatic limestone mountains, winding mountain passes, deep valleys, remote villages, ethnic minority cultures, and some of the most impressive roads in the country.

This is an excellent choice if you want to experience the Real Vietnam and explore the northern mountains beyond the standard tourist routes. Our typical Ha Giang adventure takes 8-11 days and covers 1,500 km or more, depending on the route and riding conditions.

Standard Ha Giang motorbike tour itinerary: Hanoi – Nghia Lo – Than Uyen – Sapa – Bac Ha – Ha Giang – Dong Van – Bao Lac – Cao Bang – Quang Uyen – Lang Son – Hanoi

Central North (NC) or Roof Roads

The Central North Vietnam motorcycle route, also known as the Roof Roads, is a relatively easy option that combines enjoyable road riding with spectacular mountain scenery and authentic local experiences.

Along the way, you can discover terraced rice fields, ethnic minority cultures, jungle-covered national parks, mountain valleys, traditional villages, and local homestays. The route is suitable for riders looking for a more relaxed pace while still enjoying beautiful northern Vietnam countryside.

Typical trips range from 3–10 days and cover approximately 490-1,800 km, depending on the itinerary. Difficulty level: Easy.

Standard Central North motorbike tour itinerary: Hanoi – Mai Chau or Moc Chau – Phu Yen – Vu Linh or Luc Yen – Hanoi.

Northeast (NE)

The Northeast Vietnam motorcycle route offers fantastic riding through a magical landscape of limestone karst mountains, winding roads, waterfalls, ethnic minority villages, beautiful lakes, and national parks. This is an excellent choice for riders who want a combination of scenic mountain roads and authentic cultural experiences without spending too much time on the road each day.

Along the way, we can make side trips to waterfalls, remote hill tribe communities, traditional homestays, and Ba Be Lake, with plenty of opportunities to explore areas away from the main tourist routes. Typical trips take 5-7 days and cover approximately 760-1,100 km, depending on the chosen route and local conditions.

Difficulty level: Moderate.

Standard Northeast Vietnam motorbike tour itinerary: Hanoi – Vu Linh – Na Khan – Ba Be – Cao Bang – Quang Uyen – Lang Son or Mau Son – Hanoi

Northwest (NW)

The Northwest Vietnam motorcycle tour is a classic mountain adventure that takes you toward the historic Dien Bien Phu battlefield while passing through an enormous variety of landscapes. The route combines high mountain passes, remote valleys, spectacular scenery, ethnic minority cultures, and traditional homestays.

This is a great option for riders who want to explore the less-traveled side of northern Vietnam and experience long days on winding mountain roads. Depending on the itinerary, the tour takes 6-10 days and covers approximately 1,000-1,300 km.

Difficulty level: Moderate.

Standard Northwest Vietnam motorbike tour itinerary: Hanoi – Mai Chau – Phu Yen – Son La – Tuan Giao – Lai Chau or Sin Ho – Sapa – Bac Ha or Luc Yen – Vu Linh – Hanoi

Ho Chi Minh Trail

The Ho Chi Minh Trail motorcycle tour is our longer and more challenging adventure, combining sections of the historic trail, remote backroads, and modern roads as we travel from Hanoi to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).

This journey is about much more than riding. Along the way, you can discover spectacular mountains, remote countryside, historic battlefields, wartime sites, former military bases, ethnic minority communities, and the people who experienced the war themselves. Where possible, we meet local people and hear their personal stories, adding a human perspective to this historic route.

Expect long riding days and a wide variety of road conditions, from paved highways to rougher and more remote sections. Typical trips take 9-16 days and cover approximately 1,200-2,050 km, depending on the selected itinerary.

Difficulty level: Challenging.

Standard Ho Chi Minh Trail motorcycle tour itinerary: Hanoi – Phu Yen – Mai Chau – Tan Ky – Phong Nha – Dong Hoi – Khe Sanh – Hue – Hoi An – Kon Tum – Buon Ma Thuot – Nha Trang – Da Lat – Cat Tien – Saigon.

Weekend Escape To Mai Chau And Hoa Binh

The Mai Chau and Hoa Binh weekend motorcycle tour is a great way to escape Hanoi and experience northern Vietnam in just two days. The route combines different types of roads and takes you into the traditional Thai ethnic territory around Mai Chau, with beautiful valleys, limestone mountains, rural villages, and peaceful countryside.

This short Vietnam motorbike tour from Hanoi is particularly suitable for expats living in Hanoi or travelers who do not have many days available. It offers an enjoyable introduction to motorcycle touring in Northern Vietnam without requiring a long holiday. Typical trips take 2 days and cover approximately 300 km or more, depending on the selected route.

Standard Mai Chau motorbike tour itinerary: Hanoi – Mai Chau – Hoa Binh – Hanoi

Around Hanoi

Our Around Hanoi motorcycle tours are ideal if you want to experience the countryside without traveling far from the capital. These easy rides follow quiet country roads, rice fields, traditional villages, ancient pagodas, and rural communities, providing a completely different experience from Hanoi’s busy streets.

Depending on your interests and available time, we can create a short 1-2 day motorcycle adventure covering approximately 100-250 km. The routes are generally easy and are suitable for riders looking for a relaxed introduction to motorbiking around Hanoi.

Possible destinations include Tho Ha, Bat Trang, Dong Ho, Van Phuc, But Thap, Dau, Thay, Tay Phuong, Perfume Pagoda, Hoa Lu, Tam Coc, Hoa Binh, Ba Vi, Duong Lam, and Dong Mo.

Difficulty level: Easy!

Standard Around Hanoi motorcycle tour itinerary

Custom Off-road

For experienced riders looking for something considerably more demanding, our Custom Off-Road motorcycle tours can take you deep into some of Vietnam’s most remote and spectacular regions.

These trips focus on extreme off-road dirt biking, using challenging trails and remote mountain routes that are not suitable for ordinary touring motorcycles or inexperienced riders. Expect rough terrain, mud, rocks, steep climbs, narrow tracks, and changing conditions. Riders must be experienced, physically prepared, and comfortable working with their motorcycle in difficult off-road terrain.

The duration and distance are flexible, starting from approximately 7 days and 1,000 km or more, depending on the destination, season, road conditions, and the group’s riding ability. Because these are fully customized off-road adventures, we can discuss the route and difficulty level with you before departure.

Hello,

me and my husband are interested in a 3 day off road motorcycle tour during the dates of 27 – 29 (3 days, 2 overnights). Of course we’d like to see the best of countryside, including waterfalls to swim in… though our time is limited we’re open for your suggestions. Also we’d be thankful if you would consider that we would like to home stay in a village, meals ( and water) inclusive maybe?
