This 3 Days Mai Chau motorbike tour takes you to Mai Chau where you stay with a Thai host family. In reality, Thai people are super friendly and easy going. Based on the standard 2 days, allow one extra day and we do have a better trip to explore the surrounding areas of Mai Chau. In case you like it rough, Pu Luong is one of the best areas for riding off road near Hanoi. On the other hand, if you want a relaxing day then we take a boat on Black river reservoir, North of Mai Chau. Also boating but with some trek, we invite you to try Ma river, South of Mai Chau. Altogether, these highlights will make your trip unforgettable!
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau. ~170 km, ~6 h.
Once out of the Red River Delta, which brims with traditional farming activity, we pass through limestone monoliths and into foothills populated by Muong people. We head straight at the main range before breaching a high and beautiful forested pass, which descends into the hidden valley of Mai Chau where we spend the night with friends in a traditional Thai stilt house.
The valley of Mai Chau lies between two rivers: the Da River and the Ma River that make it very fertile and rich in varied landscapes, medium mountains, forest, lake, rivers, and infinitude of small footpaths and offer many possibilities of a trek. In the valley of Mai Chau and its surroundings are Muong, White Thai, H’mong (in the height), and the Dao who we meet at the markets or in their villages while riding.
Day 2: Mai Chau. Options.
Excursion by boat on Black river Reservoir. Very calm and wild. Go up to the village of Man people. Then mini trek to the waterfall. Picnic meal. Finally, ride back to Mai Chau to have dinner and sleep in the stilt-house of Thai people.
The other option is boating along Ma River. First, we ride for about 45 minutes to take the boat (all day). Then picnic meal. Finally, ride back to Mai Chau to have dinner and sleep in the stilt-house of Thai people.
In case you like an off-road ride (quite hard) then we invite you to try challenging roads to Pu Luong Reserve Park, not very far from Mai Chau. However, takes long riding hours to get there on rough roads.
Day 3: Mai Chau – Hanoi. ~220 km, ~7 h.
In the morning, go to visit H’mong market if you are there on Sunday (~35 km from Mai Chau) then ride back to Hanoi on karst road. Lunch on road. Arrive in Hanoi ~5 pm.
