Believe it or not, you could have a fun adventure on two wheels in within one day. Even it’s not possible to get very far from Hanoi but we would try to design a loop. Here are some possibilities of a day tour around Hanoi on motorbike that we provide:
Short Ride (about 150km)
Around Hanoi to some craft villages like Tho Ha (vermicelli and ceramic), Bat Trang (ceramic), Nom architecture village and But Thap pagoda. In reality, this is recommended for less experienced riders. Despite the short distance, this is still a popular day tour on two wheels from Hanoi.
Tho Ha vermicelli and ceramic village
Tho Ha village, Van Ha commune, Viet Yen district, Bac Giang province. 35km Northeast from Hanoi. An island of about 20ha in Cau river. This is originally 900 years old ceramic village, one of the three main ceramic villages in the country together with Phu Lang and Bat Trang. The production started in the 12th century but unfortunately ended in 1988 due to competition and plastic ware. Nowadays, the village makes rice cakes and vermicelli, two of the most popular of Vietnamese food. Some villagers are keen to open a ceramic factory but it seems they either have not got enough fund nor the potential market share.
Nom ancient architecture village
An ancient village in Van Lam district of Hung Yen province, over 30km Northeast of Hanoi. You will have a chance to look at old architecture when you ride with us.
Bat Trang ceramic village
An old, well-established village in Gia Lam district of Hanoi, about 13 km from central Hanoi, on the east bank of the Red river. This is probably the most famous village in the traditional ceramic industry. Bat Trang produce a unique style of ceramics called porcelain. Bat Trang is well known throughout Vietnam for its beautiful ceramics, the production started in the 14th century. Currently, the village uses gas instead of coal to reduce pollution. Many shops at the village entrance sell Bat Trang and also Chinese ceramic products. You could take a quick lesson to learn how to form a product from clay.
But Thap Pagoda
Also known as Dien Ung or Phap Van or Co Chau pagoda where the first Indian monks landed in Vietnam. In But Thap village, Dinh To commune, Thuan Thanh district, Bac Ninh province, nearly 40km from Hanoi. It was built in the 13th century and is now one of the most famous pagodas around Hanoi with a very special Eastern architecture.
Long Ride (over 200 km)
Ride West to Ba Vi, Duong Lam ancient village, and Dong Mo golf course. In fact, this is the most popular day tour on two wheels from Hanoi. It’s long enough but also offers mountain roads and some tracks.
Below is a video clip that has some portions of this trip. In case you want to watch more videos please check our YouTube channel.
Ba Vi and Dong Mo golf course
The Ba Vi mountain range is a soil-limestone mountain range, ~40km Southwest from Hanoi. It covers an area of about 50 km2, the peak is 1,296 m high. In Vietnamese mythology, this mountain is the home of Son Tinh, the mountain god. Dong Mo golf course is Vietnam’s first 36-hole golf play field, near Ba Vi. It covers a large area and offers a good view of the lakes, green grass and a place to relax.
Duong Lam ancient village
About 40km Southwest of Hanoi near Son Tay, Duong Lam was the first ancient village recognized at Vietnam’s national level on 19 May 2006. It is a great chance to explore the architecture of ancient houses while wander along its narrow alleyways, visit temples dedicated to the two kings who were born there (Phung Hung and Ngo Quyen), and most interesting of all, chat with locals living in the ancient houses. Duong Lam village has about 800 ancient houses. Two famous places are Sung Nghiem Tu (Mia Pagoda) and Mong Phu Temple. In addition, Mia Pagoda is on a small hill in Dong Sang Hamlet.
