Central North In 3 Days Introduction

The Central North in 3 Days motorcycle tour is one of our best short motorbike tours in Northern Vietnam, ideal for riders who have limited time but still want to experience spectacular mountain scenery, enjoyable roads, traditional villages, and authentic local life.

Over just three days, this route takes you from Hanoi into the mountains of Northwest Vietnam, with beautiful riding through the countryside around Mai Chau, Moc Chau, the Da River, and Phu Yen. The route combines paved mountain roads with the possibility of adding some off-road riding, depending on your experience and what you would like to explore.

Along the way, you will see dramatic limestone mountains, forested passes, farming valleys, and ethnic minority villages. The people are friendly and welcoming, and staying in a traditional Thai stilt house in Mai Chau adds an authentic cultural experience to the trip.

If you are looking for a short Vietnam motorcycle adventure from Hanoi, this three-day loop offers an excellent balance of riding, scenery, local culture, and relaxation. It is short enough to fit into a busy travel schedule while still taking you well beyond the city and into the mountains.

Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau. (~160 km, ~6 h)

Once we leave the Red River Delta, we enter an area filled with traditional farming activity, rural villages, and extensive rice fields. The landscape gradually changes as we pass impressive limestone monoliths and enter the foothills inhabited by Muong communities.

We continue towards the main mountain range before climbing through a beautiful forested mountain pass. The road eventually descends into the peaceful and hidden Mai Chau Valley, surrounded by green mountains and traditional villages.

Mai Chau is home to the White Thai people, and we spend the night with local friends in a traditional Thai stilt house. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience local hospitality, enjoy traditional food, and see a different side of rural Northern Vietnam.

Day 2: Mai Chau – Phu Yen. (~150 km, ~6 h)

We leave Mai Chau and ride towards Moc Chau, continuing through the spectacular mountain scenery of Northwest Vietnam. From Moc Chau, we head towards the Da (Black) River and cross its reservoir before joining a beautiful winding secondary road.

The quieter road takes us through mountain countryside, forests, villages, and remote valleys before reaching Phu Yen, where we spend the night in a local guesthouse.

For riders looking for more adventure, there is also the possibility of including an off-road section today. You can discuss the available options with your tour guide, who can choose a suitable route depending on weather, road conditions, and your riding experience.

Day 3: Phu Yen – Hanoi. (~180 km, ~8 h) End of Central North In 3 Days.

Our final day takes us from Phu Yen back to Hanoi, following a combination of country roads and routes through the spectacular limestone countryside.

The ride provides a final opportunity to enjoy the peaceful rural landscapes of Northern Vietnam before gradually returning to the capital. Although the distance is around 180 km, we allow approximately eight hours because of the winding roads and regular stops for photographs, drinks, and food.

We aim to arrive in Hanoi at around 5 pm, preferably before the main rush hour, bringing this short but rewarding Central North Vietnam motorcycle tour to an end.
